    Round 12 - 12/07/2015 St Marys 2015 Under 10 - Brown ..0 vs. Macleod ..0

Coaches Comments: (well I think this is what he wrote…..because he couldn’t feel fingers when he did it!!).
Today we played Macleod at their ground in horrible conditions, and were fantastic for the first half.
But after half time we were shown a superior effort from the opposition who were a lot cleaner with their skills and execution, which saw them kick 4 goals to 1 and win pretty comfortably.
We can learn a lot from this guys……so STAY POSITIVE!

    Announcements:

Special thanks to all the permanent volunteers (Coach, Assistant Coach, Runner, Trainer) and daily volunteers (goal umpire, time keeper, umpires escort) today. You all did an awesome job in those trying conditions…..…..BUT, I do need to give an EXTRA, EXTRA SPECIAL THANKS to the Brennan Family (Helen and Chris specifically) for ‘putting up their hand up’ to take on the water runner role from the Toop family who were unable to fulfil the role this week.
Taking on this role knowing the weather forecast for this weekend is a great example of the sacrifice required to ensure the team comes first. This example makes it is absolutely clear why Nicholas plays the way he does with his team first, whatever it takes commitment. Thanks again Chris and Helen!

    Announcements:

Today we had our first ‘Send-off’ for the season……..and the first I have had to deal with in three years of Team Managing!
So I have to say….that while we don’t condone our players fighting at St Mary’s Junior Football Club, most spectators were not too disappointed to see one of our smallest players defending himself against a much bigger boy on this occasion. As it turned out the bigger boy was clearly frustrated by the fantastic tackle that had stopped him in his tracks on this occasion….. he lashed out (to who he thought was a smaller weaker opponent that wouldn’t retaliate)…………..but obviously wasn’t used to the ‘victim’ striking back.
It was a GREAT call from ‘our’ boundary umpire to alert the central umpire to get both boys sent off straight away.
Finally, the message to parents is that we should always encourage our kids to play harder and tougher than whomever they are playing against…….but they should also be encouraged to ALWAYS….play fair!!

However, after quarter time Nicko, Ben and Maverick put the ball to our teams advantage while playing in the ruck and Max M, Keanu and Anthony led the way with their great ball movement. Jack T and Ben F made the most of it by finding space and creating exciting link play, while Sean laid some amazing tackles to keep the pressure on Heidelberg when they had the ball.

Thanks to all the parent volunteers today. You all did and AMAZING job…..because it is not often that the Team Manager turns up LATE (after going to the wrong ground and sitting there for an hour before realising), and then gets ‘swamped’ by parents eager to get their bibs, coats and flags etc. and get stuck into it…….what a fantastic display of TEAM WORK both on and off the field today…..let’s keep it up.
