Today we had our first ‘Send-off’ for the season……..and the first I have had to deal with in three years of Team Managing! So I have to say….that while we don’t condone our players fighting at St Mary’s Junior Football Club, most spectators were not too disappointed to see one of our smallest players defending himself against a much bigger boy on this occasion. As it turned out the bigger boy was clearly frustrated by the fantastic tackle that had stopped him in his tracks on this occasion….. he lashed out (to who he thought was a smaller weaker opponent that wouldn’t retaliate)…………..but obviously wasn’t used to the ‘victim’ striking back. It was a GREAT call from ‘our’ boundary umpire to alert the central umpire to get both boys sent off straight away. Finally, the message to parents is that we should always encourage our kids to play harder and tougher than whomever they are playing against…….but they should also be encouraged to ALWAYS….play fair!!
At Whatmough Park today we played Park Orchards and had a tough first quarter kicking with the wind but we were able to end the quarter in front. Then after that we really took control of the game with a great team effort from the guys…..and gal ;-). For the remainder of the match we teamed really well and the use of our teammates was a real highlight.
