Round 1 - 29/4/2007 St Mary's 0.1.1 - v - Park Orchards 5.7.37
Footy Season is back! We were greeted with wet conditions and our boys played well, but we couldn't put any scoreboard pressure on Park Orchards. We showed some good passages of play and we need to work on our second efforts at the ball. Our backline stood strong; however, lack of numbers at the ball cost us in the end. We have some things to work on.

Round 2 - 6/5/2007 St Mary's 4.4.28 - v - Kew Rovers 13.12.90
The game was played at Whatmough Park and we played some good patches of footy. However, Kew Rovers were too big and strong for our boys. We need to be accountable for our players and work as a team.

Round 3 - 13/5/2007 St Mary's 2.1.13 - v - Glen Iris 8.8.56
You couldn't fault the boys endeavour today. We were undermanned, and Glen Iris were bigger and a bit quicker than us. Our tackling and shepherding were great but we need to improve our field kicking. A good effort from our backline, who tried all day. We need to help them out by staying on our players.
Goal Kickers Best Players Encouragement
Daniel Hart & Sean Johnson - 1 each In no particular order - Harry Chapman, Jackson Wolczko, Ashleigh Daisley, Jason Shine, Tim Lau, Aaron Tabone, and the rest of the team. Video Ezy Awards - Ashleigh Daisley & Sean Johnson.
Thanks to Peter Livingstone for filling in for the last 2 weeks, as Team Manager. Great Effort!
Round 4 - 20/5/2007 St Mary's 5.6.36 - v - Kew 8.11.59
A great team effort with the boys doing everything asked of them. Kew put their noses in front in the third quarter and we couldn't make up the difference. Boys (and girls, Ash!) - remember to believe in your own ability; have belief in your team mates and I'm sure a win is just around the corner.

Round 5 - 27/5/2007 St Mary's 5.1.31 - v - Doncaster 3.7.25
Fantastic team effort for our first win of the season. Our attack on the ball for four quarters was terrific and it was a well deserved win. Well Done Team!

Round 6 - 3/6/2007 St Mary's 2.3.15 - v - Canterbury 6.7.43
The boys started well and were unlucky not to have more than one goal on the board at quarter time. Unfortunately, we didn't carry that through for the rest of the game. Keep working hard at the one percenters (ie. tackling, smothering, etc.) and the rewards will come.

Round 7 - 17/6/2007 St Mary's 2.1.13 - v - Doncaster Heights 9.8.62
The boys had a slow start after the long break. Doncaster got a jump on us and we were down by 7 goals (7 to nil). However, we showed that when everyone applies themselves and gives 100%, we can play good football. We won the second half (2 goals to 1). We need to be switched on from the start of the game and then we will win some games. Boys (& Ash) - believe in your own ability and you will succeed.

Round 8 - 24/6/2007 St Mary's 2.9.21 - v - Camberwell 4.11.35
Today I asked the boys to put their bodies over the ball and do the one percenters. They played well but we couldn't snatch a win. We need to open our forward line up to give our forwards some space to kick the goals. Remember to be accountable and a win is just around the corner.

Round 9 - 1/7/2007 St Mary's 3.3.21 - v - St Damians 5.4.34
The boys played their hearts out today. We led all day but we were overrun in the last quarter, as we played with only 18 players. Special mention to Thomas (who got out of his sick bed to play) and Mango, who was off in the last quarter with a bloody nose. We kept St Damians scoreless for 2 of the four quarters. I'm sure if we take that commitment into every game, a win is just around the corner. Keep your heads up!!

Round 10 - 15/7/2007 St Mary's 3.6.24 - v - Bulleen Temp 5.4.34
The team tried their hearts out today. However, we let ourselves down in the second quarter. We're not that far away from a win. Boys - we have to remember to pick up our players for the whole game. If we can do that, a win is just around the corner. Keep your heads up guys!! Good effort!!

Round 11 - 22/7/2007 St Mary's 3.2.20 - v - Glen Iris 5.8.38
Today we had nothing to lose against Glen Iris. We battled hard but once again, we were undersized against bigger and more skillful players. Our third quarter was our best for the year, with the boys (and girl) putting bodies over the ball and getting it into our forward line. We kicked 3 goals for the quarter and pushed Glen Iris all the way. As a team, we need to become unselfish, and do the team-oriented things (sticking to players, playing in front, etc.). Keep your heads up St Marys. Good Effort.

Round 12 - 29/7/2007 St Mary's 3.2.20 - v - Canterbury 8.14.62
Today, the boys (and girl) played their best 1st quarter of football for the year. Unfortunately, we came up against a bigger and stronger opponent, who were playing for a Finals' spot. Our defense was under pressure all day,; however, Canterbury were a well-drilled team. Let's put 100% effort into our last game and earn some respect from our opposition. Thanks to all the parents for their support throughout the year - particularly Eric Gayfer who has done a great job as Team Manager. Also our Runner, Con Glouftsis; our Boundary Umpires, Trainers & Goal Umpires.

Round 13 - 5/8/2007 St Mary's 5.4.34 - v - Bundoora 7.14.56
Today's game at Whatmough Park started with us kicking against a strong wind. As always, our team tried all day but again, were outsized. We kept ourselves in the game but were beaten by a team who wanted the ball a bit more. Great effort everyone, even though it's been a tough year. Thanks to all the parents who helped throughout the year - particularly Eric as Team Manager; Con as Runner; Damo as Boundary Umpire & all the other parents who helped with Goal Umpire, Time-Keeper, etc. Let's look forward to a better year next year.
