It was not our day today. They led us to the ball and the umpires rewarded the man who was first to the ball. I don't think the conditions suited us and unfortunately we didn't play with our usual discipline. Despite today's disappointment, I am very proud of what we achieved this season. You guys are a great bunch and Greg and I had a good time coaching you this season. Well done.

Round 15 - 09/08/2009 St Mary's Under 14 - Green 11 .11 .77 vs. St Damians 5 .1 .31

We used the football really well today. Against the wind in the second quarter was when we set the game up with 3 goals. We are playing exciting football and today we ticked the last box. We have to keep that level of intencity high and if we keep working hard we can keep winning. It is a great achievement to play finals and you guys deserve to be there.

Round 14 - 02/08/2009 St Mary's Under 14 - Green 5 .5 .35 vs. Bulleen-Templestowe 8 .13 .61

We have to learn some lessons from todays game. Our first quarter was excellent and we held them to one goal with the wind in the second. Then our intensity dropped off in the 2nd half and our attack rating dropped to a 2 or 3. In the last couple of games we have played with intensity for 4 quarters and this is the key difference. We need to find that level again and stay positive - at all times!

We have organised a huge end of season celebration for this Sunday night for all our teams who are finishing this weekend, including hiring a marque & arranging additional food catering for the night. We would like to see every Coach, Team Manager, Player & parents from all our teams who are playing their last game this Sunday at the clubrooms from 5.00pm on Sunday, so we can continue the St Marys tradition of getting each of these teams up on stage to recognise their efforts throughout the season.

Round 13 - 26/07/2009 St Mary's Under 14 - Green 14 .6 .90 vs. Park Orchards 1 .3 .9

We are starting to play some really good footy. It is the teamwork and the way we are sharing the footy that is most pleasing. I think we can still use the footy a little better at times and we have to keep working on this. Tackling was again great, 2nd and 3rd efforts were up and we are running hard. If we keep the attack rating high we will keep winning.

Round 12 - 19/07/2009 St Mary's Under 14 - Green 12 .7 .79 vs. Preston 2 .5 .17

We had 40 tackles today and our second and third efforts were great. Our attack on the ball was great and we kept it up for 4 quarters. When the opposition kicks a goal, good teams are able to respond quickly and we did that today. Our use of the ball continues to improve and the teamwork is also improving. It was a great effort today boys, now let's keep it going!

Round 11 - 12/07/2009 St Mary's Under 14 - Green 6 .3 .39 vs. Ashburton 3 .1 .19

The wind made it very difficult to handle the ball today. I thought our 1st quarter was fantastic and it set us up for the win. Our backline played tight and our forwards fought hard and kept Ashburton under pressure. It was also pleasing to see th midfield working well together. Our attack on the ball was much better today and a strong win was the result. Well done boys, now let's keep it going.

Today was disappointing for a few reasons. At training we talked about the slow start and today we were well beaten in the 1st quarter. We were not hard enough at the ball and there was a general lack of desperation. We know we let ourselves down today. But there is still time to turn things around. You are a great bunch of kids and the coaching staff believe in you. It's up to you guys.

It was another tough game today. Unfortunately we were slow to get going and as a result were 4 goals behind at quarter time. Through perseverence, we got back into the game and nearly snatched it in the last. I can't quite figure out why, but we are still a bit patchy with our form. When we start to believe and play good footy for 4 quarters, we will be a formidable team. It will come!

It was a tough game today. We had to fight hard when they came at us at the end. The boys stood up to the physical pressure and didn't panic. Early on we used the ball very well and found some space and the teamwork was good. Great effort boys.

We have to be honest with ourselves - today was not our best effort. For two and a half quarters we were led to the ball and we were not physical enough. It is disappointing because we know we can do better. On a positive, we won the last quarter. We have to work harder and we will!

Round 6 - 24/05/2009 St Mary's Under 14 - Green 5 .4 .34 vs. Ashburton 9 .7 .61

Ashburton played their home ground really well. Despite a huge effort from Alex Phillips (10 marks), they were too strong for us in the air. Our 2nd quarter hurt us today when they kicked half of their goals, but our last quarter was great. We outscored them in the last and never stopped trying. We have to learn to take risks like we did last week. Keep your heads up boys.

Excellent 4 quarter effort today. There were some really good combinations where we were looking for each other. Lots of courage shown under pressure and we were taking risks at the right time. A few goals came from moving the ball on quickly and looking for each other. Great team effort today. Remember, the assists are just as important as the goals.

Round 4 - 10/05/2009 St Mary's Under 14 - Green 15 .14 .104 vs. Bulleen-Templestowe 14 .9 .93

What a shootout! This was one of the best games of junior footy I have seen. We were under heaps of pressure early and down by almost 6 goals at one stage. We didn't panic at any stage of the game, and we just kept on chipping away at them. Still down by 3 goals at 3 quarter time, but our last quarter we kept running the ball and finally got on top of them. Well done boys!

Round 3 - 03/05/2009 St Mary's Under 14 - Green 3 .9 .27 vs. Preston Bullants 8 .6 .54

It was a great effort again today. We had only 15 players (plus 3 helpers from other sides) but we matched them for most of the day. If not for our inaccuracy we would have been very close to them at the end. If we keep up the intensity, the wins will come. We have a good team spirit and I know we can keep improving.

Round 2 - 26/04/2009 St Mary's Under 14 - Green 6 .15 .51 vs. Park Orchards 4 .6 .30

It was a great effort in difficult conditions. We had a good tackle count and created plenty of opportunities. Our midfield got on top after half time and the backline was strong all day. We have to work on our forward structure a bit more so we can make the most of our opportunities. Well done today guys.

It was a cruel result because we deserved to win. After a poor start, we fought our way back into the game. It was a great team effort after quarter time and very courageous given the injuries we had early on. I was very proud of you guys today.
