Dear members,
Round 5 sees the end of our grading games and players will in the main be settled in teams & divisions for the remainder of the season.
A big thankyou goes out to Glenn, Mark & Jack in our football department and our Age Group Managers who have worked very hard to try and ensure our players and teams are in a grade where they will not only be competitive, but also challenged so that they can develop as individual footballers and as a team. Whilst winning is great and finals football and premierships are fantastic it is much better to have close, challenging contests and avoid the blowouts and mismatches we sometimes see during the grading process. One of the strengths of the YJFL is that by having so many clubs & teams involved they can organise the divisions to enable competitive games and leagues.
Over the next couple of weeks our football department will be presenting to our coaches an exciting new football development program that we trust will enhance and improve our club not only this season but in the years to come. The football development program at St Marys will cover many aspects, including improving and developing our already very skilled boys and girls so that they have the opportunity to be selected in representative squads and perhaps one day fulfil an ambition to play at AFL or other high level senior football. However, more importantly, it will also cater for those kids who just have a love of the game and the team sport environment to better develop as individual footballers therefore improving their confidence and enjoyment of the game so that they are still representing the club as top age Colts or Youth Girls. Once again a big thanks to the football department for all of their hard work in this regard.
Next month sees the first of our whole club social events, ladies please keep Saturday 20th June for our annual Ladies Night, which is fast becoming the highlight of the St Marys calendar for many. More information on this event will follow in the coming weeks via your team managers and we look forward to another fantastic night.
Whilst on the ladies, this weekend we acknowledge the input of all of the Mums at St Marys and the role they play at our club, from committee members, to team managers, goal umpires, boundary umpires, timekeepers , umpire escorts, orange providers & banner makers, not to mention the countless hours ferrying our kids to and from games and training. I hope your efforts are appreciated by your sons and daughters, not just this Sunday but every week. To celebrate Mothers Day, the clubrooms will be closed this Sunday night and I trust you will enjoy your night in, or out, with your family.
Next Sunday night, Sunday 17th May will focus on our Colts & Youth Girls teams.
