Round 4 has reached us already and signifies the last of the grading games. At this time, I would like to acknowledge the hard work of our football Department. Whilst we strive to get every team in an appropriate competitive grade we will never get this 100% right. However, in saying this the majority of our sides are competitive and we will only need to request a couple of sides to be regraded. A terrific effort by the team and a just reward for all the countless hours of hard work behind the scenes.

Round 4 also coincides with the AFL “Community Umpire Week”. It is a week where we acknowledge our umpires who make it possible for our children to play the game they love. This game cannot survive without this important role. Yes, they are human, yes, they will make mistakes but yes, they play a pivotal role in our great game. The YJFL has a large number of young and developing umpires (some of them St Mary’s Junior footballers) and with the spotlight on them this week I encourage you to support and thank them for the contribution to the game.

We are still looking for several Team Sponsors and I encourage you to consider becoming a sponsor. A sponsor has direct access to over 1,000 members who have a strong history of “supporting the supporters”. It is our sponsorship and level of volunteerism that enables us to keep fees low and provide better value to our children.

ANZAC Round update. In support of the Greensborough RSL over the ANZAC round we had volunteers going around rattling tins and selling badges. We raised in excess of $1,500 which was fully donated to the RSL. The RSL could not be more impressed with the level of commitment, community spirit and respect our club has demonstrated. A massive thanks to all those volunteers who helped with this cause.
