Finally Round 1 has been done and dusted and the kids finally got to kick a ball in anger. Whilst our win – loss ratio was not great, it was great to see so many competitive teams and the kids out there really enjoying themselves. I went to several games over the day and was very impressed by the endeavour, spirit and fair play shown by all. Proud to see you all representing this club in such a manner.

Our Colts 1 side wore an Anzac day jumper generously donated by the Greensborough RSL. Whilst the result didn’t go their way, they wore the jumper with pride and showed the Anzac spirit of never giving in and persevering all the way to the final siren. If they keep this up all year I’m sure they will end up having a fantastic year. Well done boys.

For those of you at home games this week, you would have noticed we have tendered out the canteen this year. Sinners Restaurant have won the tender and are now operating for both Senior and Junior games. They are producing a large variety of food from bacon and egg rolls through to more traditional meat pies and dim sims, but most importantly are providing excellent coffee to kick off those cold wintery mornings.

I cannot mention the above without personally thanking our previous canteen operators who have put in years of service to support the St Mary’s GJFC. Tony and Marie Giles / Debbie and Russell Benson have dedicated over 20 years to the club. Not only doing the canteen, but doing line markings, assisting in opening and setting up and pack up of grounds each Sunday and helping out with working bees. They also support all our functions and are a regulars upstairs each Sunday. Both couples are life members of the club and I cannot thank them enough for their dedication over such a long period.

Also I would like to mention our sponsors for the year. A club our size does not operate with the backing and support of local businesses in the area.

Watson Holden have come on board as a Major Diamond Sponsor for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. For those at our home games you would have noticed the HOLDEN COLORADO and the banner, which will be at the front of our rooms every Sunday. I thank Watson Holden for their support and hope that if you are in the market for a new car that you think of Watsons as an option. I’m sure if you mention that you are from St Mary’s GJFC they will give you a great deal.

Our Platinum Sponsors of Banyule Dental, The Blinds Spot, Stuart Broadley & Associates and Barry Plant, I thank you for your continued support.

McDonalds Greensborough are also a new sponsor, who have kindly decided to support our club this year. Not only have they come on board as a sponsor, they have also donated vouchers for our lower age groups and our Auskickers as achievement awards.

SUNDAY NIGHT 30th May – Round 2.

Sunday Night will be our Tackers and Auskick Age Group Night, so it would be great to see as many of this age group get back to the rooms on Sunday evening enjoying each other’s company. Coaches will make short speeches on how the season has kicked off.

Whilst it is a specific age group night, everyone is welcome back to the rooms from 5.30pm on Sunday.

FREE PIZZAS will be available for all players. And don’t forget the lucky Jumper number drawer.

And last but not least a couple of very important dates to put in your diary.

Ladies Night: 20th May – $25 a ticket – see your team manager for tickets.
Poker Night: 23rd June – Friday Night – Details to follow shortly.
Gala Ball: 28th July – Friday Night – Details to follow soon.
