Hi all and welcome to the 2017 football year – yes it has finally arrived.

It has been a massive offseason, but we have managed to get some 480 kids registered across 26 sides. It will be great to finally get them all out on the park and kicking the football with their mates.

Putting this many participants on the park fully kitted out each week doesn’t happen without a lot of dedicated people working hard in the background, so a big thank you to my committee and other volunteers who have helped out – a club as big and successful as ours would not survive without the help of these volunteers.

St Mary’s prides itself on being a club that can provide a safe and enjoyable environment where each child can have an amazing experience no matter what level of football they are playing. Our success is measured on how our children grow and develop into positive role models in the community rather than win – loss records on a score board.

Whilst this week is our first game, it is also the Anzac round. Last night we held our Colts 1 jumper presentation. You may have heard news reports about various RSL’s sponsoring sides to wear a one off jumper this weekend. I am proud to say that the Greensborough RSL have sponsored our Colts 1 side to wear this jumper this weekend. The jumper design looks terrific and I’m sure our Colts side will wear it with pride and treat it with the respect it deserves. Colts 1’s will be playing at Whatmough Park at 3pm on Sunday, so it would be great if as many people could get there to watch and support this game. The RSL have provided some Anzac day commemorative pins and other products which will be on sale around the ground on Sunday – so please donate generously to support such a worthy cause.

Sunday night the clubrooms will be open after the Colts 1 game. Approximately 5.30. Pizzas will be provided free for all players. A meal of Lasagne and salad will be available for purchase at a reasonable price. I hope to see as many people as possible back at the rooms on Sunday evening.

Good luck to all teams. With the Anzac round you will hear terms like Respect, Mateship, Fairness, Sportsmanship. These are true values of our football club which I hope will be seen throughout the year. And remember when all the dust settles, it is just A GAME!!!

Go Burra!!!
